Bird Box Update

Update from Susan Davies from Friends of Singleton Park

It was a chilly day to clear the bird boxes. I was a bit anxious as had only seen one with active use.

But worry not because there has been a very good usage in the first season. There were only 2 boxes unused the sparrow gallery in the botanics and the first one we checked.

Thanks to Dafydd for his expert placement of the boxes a probable high population due to feeding that is an amazing success. Here are some photos they are all tits of some sort. One nest had a small number of eggs still in situ but normal numbers are 10 or so eggs so the others may have been a success. Nesting material is what is available. Thank a dog for the tennis ball. The boxes are cleaned to reduce ticks and bird mites.

We also chatted to other interested people in the park.
