Swansea's Bonfire Night Fireworks Move to Singleton Park

Swansea's annual Bonfire Night fireworks display is moving to Singleton Park this year, with thousands of visitors expected to descend on the area for an evening of fireworks, live entertainment and family activities.

The popular council-organised event, which has traditionally taken place at St Helen's Rugby and Cricket Ground, will be held at Singleton Park on Thursday, 5 November 2026, bringing one of Swansea's biggest annual celebrations to the doorstep of Sketty residents.

The move follows the £7.6 million redevelopment of St Helen's as the new home of the Ospreys rugby team, with Swansea Council choosing Singleton Park as the new venue for this year's celebrations.

The event will have a myths and magic theme, with organisers promising an evening of fantasy-inspired entertainment, including fairies, wizards, theatrical performances and appearances by familiar characters from film and television.

Visitors can expect to see characters including Harry Potter, Dumbledore, Tinkerbell, Maleficent, Mary Poppins, Glinda and Elphaba, alongside illuminated unicorns and even a mechanical dragon.

For the first time, the fireworks will also be accompanied by laser effects, adding another dimension to the traditional pyrotechnic display.

Gates will open at 5pm, with live entertainment beginning at 5.30pm. A special fire performance is scheduled for 6.45pm, followed by the main fireworks display at 7.30pm, which is expected to last approximately 20 minutes.

The evening will conclude with a musical finale shortly before the event closes at 8pm.

A variety of food and drink stalls will also be available throughout the evening.

Councillor Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, welcomed the move, describing Singleton Park as a fantastic new home for one of the city's most popular annual events.

He said the park would provide a safe setting for families to enjoy Bonfire Night together, while encouraging people to attend an organised display rather than setting off fireworks themselves.

Tickets are already on sale, with advance admission priced at £6 for adults and £5 for children and concessions. Swansea Council's Passport to Leisure cardholders can purchase tickets for £4, while family tickets cost £13 for two adults and two children, or £15 for two adults and three children.

Tickets purchased on the day will cost slightly more, with adult admission rising to £7, children's tickets to £6 and family tickets to £18 or £20 respectively.

Advance tickets will remain available online until midnight on Wednesday, 4 November. Tickets may also be available at the gates, although organisers have warned that the event could sell out beforehand.

With Singleton Park located immediately beside Sketty and Brynmill, residents should also be aware of temporary road closures and increased traffic in the surrounding area.

A temporary closure will affect Brynmill Terrace, between the Co-op and Mumbles Road, for approximately 30 to 45 minutes between 7.45pm and 8.45pm. This will allow visitors to leave the event safely, although it will also temporarily prevent vehicles from leaving the Lacrosse Field car park until the road can be reopened.

The council has said that access for residents will be maintained wherever it is safe to do so, with alternative routes signposted where necessary.

Drivers are being encouraged to allow additional time for their journeys, particularly around Mumbles Road, Sketty Lane and the surrounding area, as considerable congestion is expected both before and after the display.

Dedicated event parking will be available at Singleton Lacrosse Field and the Recreation Ground, both near Mumbles Road, at a cost of £5 per vehicle. The car parks will open at 4pm, with payment collected on arrival.

Those living within walking distance of the park may find it easier to leave the car at home, particularly given the anticipated traffic and temporary restrictions.

Accessible viewing facilities will be provided within the park, with limited accessible parking available on a first-come, first-served basis. Portable toilets, catering facilities and first aid provision will also be available.

For residents with pets, the change of venue is also worth bearing in mind.

With the fireworks taking place much closer to residential areas around Sketty, Brynmill and Uplands, the noise may be particularly noticeable for households surrounding the park.

The main fireworks are scheduled between 7.30pm and 7.50pm, and organisers have advised pet owners to keep animals indoors during this period, close windows and curtains and provide somewhere quiet and comfortable for frightened pets to retreat.

Dogs will not be permitted into the event, and visitors will not be allowed to bring their own fireworks or sparklers.

The display is expected to go ahead in rainy conditions, although strong winds, fog or poor visibility could result in a delay or postponement. Any changes will be announced through the council's official social media channels.

Advance tickets for the show itself are on sale now and are available here.
