Swiss Cottage
Singleton Park boasts one of the most revered landmarks in the area, the charming Swiss Cottage. Erected in the 19th century and nestled amidst the park's serene landscape, this delightful structure has become a point of interest for many locals who frequent the area for leisurely strolls, dog walks, and runs. Often, local residents express their desire to see the cottage given new purpose, as it has remained vacant for an extended period of time.
Fortunately, it appears that their wishes may soon come true, as plans are underway to revitalise this beloved landmark. Tifa Property, led by Michael Border, has recently acquired the keys to the cottage, a historically significant structure designed by Peter Frederick Robinson in 1826. Robinson is renowned for designing Sketty Hall, located nearby, for the esteemed Vivian family during the early 19th century. With a 15-year lease agreement in place, Mr. Border and his team have ambitious intentions for the Swiss Cottage's future.
The new owner of the Swiss Cottage expressed his enthusiasm for taking over the landmark, acknowledging that it was disheartening to witness its previous state of disrepair. He shared that the response from the public has been positive, as people desire to see the cottage regain its significance and not be left neglected, considering its importance as a landmark.
Mr. Border's plans for the cottage include transforming it into a cafe, with two separate units outside to serve food and beverages such as ice cream and street food. He is keen on involving the local community in the decision-making process and is open to incorporating their ideas and preferences. Additionally, he sees the potential to collaborate with local businesses. The building will be carefully restored to maintain its iconic external appearance. The interior needs work, but is not a major concern. The envisioned café will be a daytime gathering place, serving as a hub for the community. The setup will include sitting areas to provide a welcoming space for visitors regardless of the weather. Furthermore, Mr. Border is in talks with various groups that frequently use the park, viewing the cottage as a potential meeting point for these community groups.
