Dr John Adams Rawlings
MRCP....1848-1933. Swansea’s greatest Puritan. He married Mary Elizabeth Rees in 1873. At various times he lived in Northampton Villas, Northampton Terrace, Nicholl Street and finally at “Bryn Awel”, Gower Road, Sketty. He was a member of Sketty Wesley Methodist Chapel, Dillwyn Road, where he held many offices. He held very strong views on temperance, Sabbath observance and caused controversy in a speech he made about war. His brother, Horatio, was also a GP, and organist at Brunswick Methodist Church, St Helen’s Rd. there is an article about him in Minerva/Swansea History Journal vol 8.
