Sketty Water Supply

Taken from The Cambrian | 11th July 1884.

To the editor of “The Cambrian.”

Sir, — I will thank you to allow me to draw the attention of the authorities to the state of the water supply of this, in other respects, pleasant suburb. It seems almost incredible that in these days of sanitary reform, it should be possible to find a community numbering 2,000 persons, a portion of whom are within the limits of the Parliamentary Borough of Swansea, without any adequate supply of water. To aggravate matters, all ratepayers in the District of Swansea Lower are called upon annually, to pay a special sanitary rate of 1s. in the pound which I am quite given to understand is to meet the outlay of water supplied to the northern portions of the district, and to defray the rent and other storage charges upon iron pipes purchased years ago for the conveyance of water to the village.

The one source of supply is daily growing less, and what I may ask, are those in authority prepared to do, in affording at least some temporary supply? With regard to the larger question, I will, with your permission return to the matter again, as I am under the impression that the case is bad enough for an appeal being made to the Local Government Board.
