Singleton Mudbath
It is a matter of great regret and frustration that once again we see the ground in Singleton Park destroyed by heavy machinery during the wet autumnal months.
The fact that it is so predictable makes it more aggravating. The same thing occurred last year and the grass did not begin to grow back until March.
The ability to accommodate some of the most well-known performers in the world over the summer is something to welcome and be proud of, but before the next one, there needs to be a fundamental shift in how we approach the problem of ground protection.
Singleton Park is just that; a park, a place where people from all walks of life come together to enjoy nature and the environment, as well as the many activities that are on offer. Additionally, a wide variety of species call it their home. It is something to treasure and defend. It is not a cash cow.
Local Sketty Councillor James McGettrick said that it was "Not acceptable in the slightest. I'm furious that this keeps happening. I love the park even if the current Swansea administration clearly do not & will certainly be adding my voice to the complaints."
Cllr McGettrick has also informed the Special Events team and the Labour cabinet member responsible: "I've also asked what they're planning to change regards the upcoming World Cup Fan Zone as current plans for events are clearly either: a) inadequate, or b) not being followed. When you think of how many times they've run events successfully over the years, the recent spate of damage really is unacceptable."
Sketty Online will be raising this issue with Swansea Council.
