Cycle Lane Consultation
Swansea Council, in partnership with Transport for Wales, are holding a public consultation on draft proposals for how the A4118 Gower Road, Sketty Road, Uplands Crescent, Walter Road and adjacent side roads could be improved to make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to walk and cycle.
Importantly, this project is also an opportunity to address wider concerns around road safety and traffic speeds.
In brief, key elements of the draft proposals include:
Improved footways and new I improved pedestrian crossings
A new, continuous, segregated two-way cycle track along the whole route
Simplified junction layouts to help make them easier for people walking and cycling including new arrangements at the Sketty Road/Glanmor Road/Uplands Crescent junction, the Uplands Crescent, Gwydr Square junction and the Gwydr Square/Beechwood Road junction
Alterations to parking arrangements
Possible one-way systems on short sections of some side roads
Drainage and landscaping improvements
Overall, an improved streetscape which is safer and more pleasant for walking and cycling.
The above illustration shows what Sketty Road could look like around the junction of Glanmor Park Road, looking towards Uplands. It shows the proposed two-way cycle track on the south side of the road, alongside an area set aside for parking and the existing central hatched area removed.
These images show how Sketty Road is currently laid out near the junction of Glanmor Park Road, looking towards Uplands, and how this would change to accommodate the cycle track and other improvements.
