Say Cheese (and Ham)

Cult Sandwich Shop Opens This Friday

The sandwich shop that’s had Swansea foodies queueing down the street is now coming to Eversley Road.

Grandad Needs His Medicine, known for its stacked BBQ brisket sandwiches and viral Japanese-inspired cheesecake sandwiches, opens a brand-new location in the village on Friday, 18th July.

Owner Chris Hardie started the business with a focus on slow-cooked meats, house-made sauces, and bold, unusual flavours. Their signature hot brisket sandwich is cooked for 16 hours and served with burnt cheddar, homemade BBQ sauce, and chillies in a toasted potato bun.

But it’s the cheesecake sandwiches that have really put them on the map. Inspired by a Japanese trend, the flame-toasted brioche sandwich holds a solid-set cheesecake filling. Flavours change monthly, from lemon yuzu and blueberry to dark chocolate and cherry kirsch.

“We started making 20 a week just to test the idea,” Chris said. “Now we’re up to 100, and they’re still selling out before lunchtime.”

With the new shop on Eversley Road, locals won’t have to travel into Swansea to get hold of them. Expect the same menu as the original location, with hot breakfast sandos, steak frites baguettes, and that now-famous cheesecake sandwich on Thursdays.

Grandad Needs His Medicine opens its Eversley Road doors on Friday, 18th July. Early arrival is recommended—if Swansea is anything to go by, there won’t be much left by midday!
